MORPHO

Branding, Packaging Design

Role: BranD and PackagiNg Designer

MORPHO is a branding and product packaging project for a Blue Morpho Butterfly. For this project I was to create a brand inspired by the Blue Morpho Butterfly. As the designer I created a brand identity, packaging, and marketing collateral that include, logo, visual identity, graphic designs, business system, marketing campaign and process book.

Problem

As today's packaging and products are generating millions of waste each year, our campaign aims to be innovative while also being sustainable in practice as a way of being eco friendly to the environment. I wanted to address this problem by creating packaging that is sustainable while also being creative. My design proposal is to use materials that are sustainable and environmentally friendly such as lotus and spider web silk due to their strength and water proof characteristics.

Final Packaging Design

The final packaging design is a temporary butterfly habitat. The paper packaging is made of lotus leaf plants, while the netting is made out of silk spun from a spider web. Since Morpho values sustainability, I have researched materials so that my packaging can be biodegradable and sustainable for the environment. The packaging would be made from paper derived from the lotus leaf, as the lotus is water resistant and durable. The netting on the other hand, is made from silk spun from spider to allows the butterfly to breathe and grow. When the butterflies are released, the packaging can be composted or be used as a lantern.

Conclusion

Our throw away culture is damaging our planet. We constantly buy things, but we do not realize all the waste that is generated by it. This is why I wanted to address this issue by incorporating both the product and packaging together in one system to reduce waste and extend the products lifecycle. By making the packaging material biodegradable, it will be more eco-friendly for the environment and reduce our landfills. This project taught me branding applications and visual identity while also incorporating sustainable practice in design.
